The Ontario government made it illegal to use cellphones and other electronic devices while driving just over a year ago, but the law has done little to make roads safer, says the Ottawa police department.

Officers still routinely catch people using cellphones and driving erratically. On average, Ottawa police hand out 400 fines per month for distracted driving, according to CBC News.

Maybe people are just trying to hide their cellphone usage in cars now, or perhaps they are getting distracted in other ways: eating, drinking coffee, smoking. Whatever the case, the roads aren't much safer than they were a year ago.
