Spontaneous gesture shows city's regret
As Vancouver sobers up following their brutal defeat in the Stanley Cup finals, the city seems increasingly ashamed of the riots that ripped through downtown.
But today, citizens showed two Vancouver Police officers that they're still capable of spontaneous acts of kindness - not just destruction.
After responding to a call yesterday afternoon, the two officers returned to their car to find it plastered with sticky-notes. The windows were not smashed, the tires were intact, and there were no fires to put out. The notes carried messages of thanks and appreciation: "You guys protected us", "Thank you. God bless you", "Thanks for being here for us!"
VPD Inspector Rick Smitas was overwhelmed by the gesture, he told News 1130. "I think it's not only a symbol of support for the Vancouver Police Department, but for community - that there were a few, but there were only a few."
